The League of Women Voters recently honored Senator Joe Fain with the "Sunshine Award" for his work to improve access to public records during the 2014 legislative session.
The award was presented at the annual League of Women Voters TOAST! To the Candidates breakfast at the Westin in Seattle.
Both State Representative Gerry Pollet and Senator Fain received the League’s 2014 award.
Senator Fain has been a strong supporter of open government policies. This past session he sponsored and successfully passed legislation requiring mandatory open public records training for public officials in order to increase transparency and the public's access to local government records.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
