State Sen. Joe Fain, R-Auburn (47th District), has introduced a proposal to strengthen the penalty for those convicted of assaulting a teacher or other school staff member.
“Breaking ground on this park is the result of a great deal of work by community members who had a vision to improve our region and are making it happen,” said Sen. Fain (R-Auburn), who secured a $650,000 grant for the park in the state’s 2013 capital budget. “Providing opportunities for families to recreate is vitally important to this growing area. I cannot wait to see the incredible community asset this park will be for many years."
Sen. Joe Fain (R-Auburn) hosted the Leadership Institute of South Puget Sound for a behind-the-scenes tour at the state Capitol on Wednesday.
Fain organized information sessions, a speaking panel and tour for 23 current and future business and government leaders from South King County. This is the second year Fain has hosted and organized a day at the Capitol for the Leadership Institute.
State Sen. Joe Fain was elected as the floor leader by his caucus, one of four top leadership positions filled by Republican senators as they met Wednesday in Olympia.
"I'm looking forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to make progress for Washington residents on important issues like education, budget sustainability, and transportation," said Fain, of Auburn.
Fain said that the legislative process worked the way it was supposed to work, compromise was forced, and the upshot was that the state took another step toward a more sustainable budget. The original budget as proposed, Fain noted, would have been "out of whack by about a billion or more just next year."
Two weeks ago we joined a bipartisan majority of state senators to present a long-term sustainable budget that doesn’t spend more money than the state expects to collect. This proposal not only addresses the remaining 16 months left in the current two-year budget cycle, but also the next two-year budget cycle through mid-2015. Families and small businesses face serious consequences if they do not live within their means and plan for the future; state government is no different.
