The League of Education Voters (LEV) has endorsed Sens. Joe Fain (R-Auburn) and Rep. Pat Sullivan (D-Covington) for Washington's 47th District for the upcoming elections.

The district encompasses Auburn, Kent, Covington and Renton.

"Sen. Fain and Rep. Sullivan share our vision of improving public education for all of Washington's students," said LEV CEO Chris Korsmo. "LEV is proud to endorse these two candidates for reelection."

Fain serves on the Senate Early Learning and K-12 Education Committee. He is a fourth-generation Washingtonian who has been serving South King County residents for more than a decade. Among the bills Fain has sponsored are SB 6552, the College and Career Ready Diploma, and SB 6523, the Real Hope Act (also known as the Dream Act).

Sullivan serves on the House Appropriations Committee. He serves as the House of Representatives majority leader and has served in the House since 2004. Among the bills Sullivan has sponsored are HB 1723, Early Start, and HB 2051, the implementation of basic education expenditures to provide additional instructional supports to English Language Learner (ELL) students.

LEV's endorsement process was conducted by a committee of board and community members who interviewed candidates beginning in May. The LEV Board voted July 3 to approve the committee's recommendations for endorsement.
